She “wasn’t completely sold” on her first Reiki session, but for Biloela’s Juanita Zischke it became a way to deal with grief and loss, and now a means of helping others through her own business in energy healing.

The journey to study and practice began in 2016, when Juanita kept seeing references to Reiki on social media.

While she initially ignored the gentle nudge from the universe, eventually she had her first session.

“While I enjoyed it, I wasn’t completely sold on it,” Juanita recalled.

However with the death of her mother in 2018, Juanita turned to the natural healing energy practice to help with her grief.

“We’d had a pretty tough journey with my mum’s condition, and it took a toll on me mentally and emotionally,” Juanita said.

“In August 2018 my cousin told me she was going to a lady in Gin Gin who did Reiki and she was going to have three one-hour consecutive sessions. We were visiting them that same weekend and my cousin asked me if I would be interested to have the same sessions,” Juanita remembered.

This synchronistic event would direct Juanita into the field she would study and later practice.

“Netta Bennett knew as soon as I walked into her Reiki room that I was going to study Reiki with her.”

Although she didn’t know it at the time, this practice would help her immensely when faced with the loss of loved ones.

“I needed Reiki for when my mum crossed over. It has changed my life so much. I am a very different person. I have grown and mellowed.”

The loss and change in Juanita’s life inspired her to question what she was doing.

“Essentially I started questioning my life purpose,” Juanita said. “I really needed to take control of my health as I was overweight.

“I don’t remember the actual defining moment, I just know I woke up one day and thought ‘fuck this shit!’”

As soon as Juanita learnt the art of Reiki she started using it on close friends and family.

At the end of last year she opened her own business, taking a leave of absence from her job.

Now, Juanita is passionate about making The Reiki Hut her full-time work.

As a Level 2 Reiki practitioner Juanita hopes to pass on her ability to find peace to her clients.

“I want to be of service to the people in my community,” Juanita says.

“I want to be able to help them navigate their lives, using Reiki to help balance them and calm their minds so that they can help themselves.

“We have a lot of mental health issues and if I can give one person an hour of calm and peace then my hope is that they will find the door they need to open to get them onto the right path for healing.”
