PIlbeam Theatre back in action with COVID-safe Sunday Sessions

After four months of coronavirus-induced silence, music and laughs are coming back to the Pilbeam Theatre.

The theatre is producing a series of Sunday Session variety concerts starting on September 6 from 4pm.

Every session will have a different mix of entertainers, including stand up comedians Mick Neven, Jodie van de Wetering and Thomas Sayers, the Rocky Improv Group, dance/cheer/acrobatics outfit Epic Studios Australia, Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra, local bands, and performers from school musicals.

The concerts will have a live audience, but with reduced auditorium capacity in line with the venue’s COVID Safe Plan.

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Cr Drew Wickerson said the concerts serve several purposes.

“These Sunday Sessions will be a great transition event as we head towards bigger shows on the horizon. The concerts will help the venue work through some of the temporary changes it has put in place.

“At the same time, Sunday Sessions is a great opportunity for local entertainers who might otherwise not have had the chance to perform on the Pilbeam Theatre stage.

“I encourage people to come and see the shows and support local performers,” he said.

The Pilbeam Theatre Box Office will be open from Monday 31 August for in-person ticket sales.

Some of the temporary changes:

  • Auditorium capacity is reduced for social distancing. This means fewer tickets than you might expect, so book early.

  • The box office will allocate seats to ensure social distancing, and email your seat details through a few days before the show.

  • If you want to sit together, book together.

  • In a reversal of previous rules, the bar is open but you can only consume your drinks or snacks in your allocated seat in the auditorium. (Don’t worry, the doors will open earlier than usual before the show.)

  • The theatre’s preferred ticket delivery method is print at home via email. Print and bring along the hard copy, or show the usher the digital ticket on your phone. If these don’t work for you, the box office can help - 4927 4111.

  • For contact tracing, you’ll have to provide contact details for everyone in your crew.

  • Toilets have changed to help with social distancing and traffic flow - women’s are now down the side corridors, and men’s opposite the candy bar.

  • If you need a hand to book, have specific access needs or seating requirements, or are booking with a Companion Card, contact the box office on 4927 4111.

  • Obviously, stay home if you’re sick.
