Life's journey

Three pieces about life's journey by The Talking Fridge

Crossroads

As the sun sets, the atmosphere changes with a mild wind blowing from the south-east.  The sky changes through various colours to black with stars starting to appear as far as the eye can see on a crystal clear night. Standing at cross roads, the black asphalt strip with a white dotted line in the centre disappears into the distance in all four directions. The road taken next will be long, it will have its potholes, obstructions and traffic no matter which route is taken. Looking for headlights approaching on the horizon, tail lights disappearing into the distance or listening for chit chat on channel 40 on the UHF, the road ahead is unclear.

Cloud of Dust

Just like a cloud of dust behind a cruiser ute travelling down a dirt road, with gold wattle blossoming on either side, the road continues...

We need to adapt to changes and move forward.  Conditions have changed but the goal is still there and we must achieve it all the same.  One knows that there is more than one way to “skin a cat”, just as one must find the most effective and efficient way that suits the resources available.  There is nothing wrong with doing what people want, but one should feel free to do it “your way” and make it work...

But as your wheels rotate travelling on whatever surface you are driving on, your tyres will wear out eventually.  We all have our canyons to cross, we just need to choose the road through it. Tarmac, dirt or bush track, the decision is only made by the driver.

Hesitation is a big thing... It's like a yellow/amber traffic light. Does one speed up or slow down?  At least it's a road and not a railway line, one has more choices on directions and when to stop.

Only to hear the trayback rattling as that cruiser ute makes its way down that dirt road.

Water rushing over pebbles

The flow of crystal clear fresh water rushes over the pebbles and stones, as my wheels rotate and I travel through the stream that crosses my path. Once again road conditions have changed!

It's a long way from sitting on a cliff face or staring down that black tarmac strip with that white dotted line down the centre of it.

A more remote road, still with dreams and objectives wanting to be reached, but further out of reach and more difficult to achieve.

Through that creek crossing, that corrugated dirt road continues kicking up dust behind my cruiser ute. Miles from any town or city and surrounded by blossoming native trees and shrubs along with all sorts of animals from mammals, reptiles and insects, one keeps travelling.
On a road to somewhere! Destination unknown?

Ultimate destination “Home” - somewhere to kick off your shoes, hang your hat and relax.

No matter what road is taken, the journey starts with a single step.  From there one will cross canyons, climb mountains and travel many roads to reach one's destination.

The road continues...
