Art lovers snapping up first chances to see Monique Morter's Halcyon Earth at Gala Gallery

Monique Morter’s Halcyon Earth, a dreamy exhibition of ethereal, effervescent landscapes, is coming to Rockhampton’s Gala Gallery - but if you’d like to be one of the first to see it, there’s no time to snooze.

The gallery is launching the Melbourne artist’s solo show with two pre-booked, capped-attendance events on July 11 to keep everyone safe in the time of rona. The evening event from 5:30pm is already booked out, but you may be able to squeak into the 3pm afternoon session.

Drawing is Monique’s technique of choice, with an emphasis on landscapes which connect the viewer with not only the place depicted, but the artist as well. It is this junction Monique searches for in her work; beyond a description of the visible world, her drawings are a connection to memory and personal experience.

In her newest collection of works, Monique depicts the rocky boulders of the Australian landscape, transformed into crystalline beacons of wonder and fantasy.

The sky lifts from the horizon to lighten the atmosphere with a sense of reverie in a blanket of opalescent blue, altogether conjuring a scene to quell all worry – depicting a charmed land of centuries past.
