A crew from Mackay's CQUniversity Conservatorium of Music are on their way to Kuala Lumpur this weekend to be part of a collaborative performance putting a 21st century take on Gilbert and Sullivan.

The 27 CQU students are teaming up with students from Malaysia's Bentley Music Academy to stage The M1K-A-D-0, a "futuristic revamp" of the 19th century comic opera.

The Aussie contingent is Bachelor of Theatre and Bachelor of Music students from around the country, including third year student and M1K-A-D-0 lead Celina Wood.

“Personally and professionally, I am looking forward to working with others who possess the same drive and passion for performing,” Celina said.

Funding for the tour came from the New Colombo Plan - a federal project helping Aussie undergrad students study, research do internships, or be mentored, in the Indo Pacific.
